On Thursday our former president Dr.Pranab MUKHERJEE was rewarded the Bharat Ratna , the highest civilian award by his successor president Ramanath Kovind. This great man served our nation as a minister of defence, finance, external affairs for years. That’s why I am really proud of being a resident of West Bengal. He is the 5th Bangalee to receive the highest civilian award following Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy , an eminent Indian physician ,philanthrophist, educationist and politician won the Bharat Ratna award in 1961.
Next to him is Satyajit Ray, Indian filmmaker, screen writers, music composer, lyricist and author of “APUR SANGSAR” got the Bharat Ratna award in 1992. Pandit Ravisankar , Sitar maestro, was conferred the highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna in 1999. Indian economist and philosopher Amartya Kumar Sen was awarded the highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna in 1999.
